Mr. Russell Jones

Mr. Russell Jones Graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education.

While at the University of Texas he was a member of the Texas Longhorn Band, Texas Blazers, and the University of Texas Sailing Club.  He served as a trumpet section leader of the Longhorn Band and as an officer of the UT Sailing Club.

Assistant Director of Bands

Mr. Travis Barney is in his second year as the Walsh Assistant Band Director and has previously held Band Directing positions around the state in the Amarillo, Seagraves, Happy, Rice Consolidated and Canyon Independent School Districts.

Mr. Jones has taught in both the Pflugerville Independent School District and the Round Rock Independent school District. 

Prior to becoming the Director of Bands at Walsh Middle School  Mr. Jones was the Assistant Director of Bands at Dessau Middle School in Pflugerville ISD and the Assistant Director of Bands at Cedar Valley Middle School in Round Rock.

Mr Jones is the proud father of the future Longhorn Quarterback and Clarinet Virtuoso, Landon Jones.

Students and parents will likely meet Mrs. Sara Jones as well since she is an ongoing supporter of the Walsh Band family.

In his spare time Mr. Jones enjoys windsurfing, racing sailboats, buying and selling houses and listening to music at the band hall.

Mr. Barney received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Music Education from West Texas A&M University, where he played saxophone and other woodwinds in the marching, symphonic, and jazz bands and was also the graduate conductor for the wind ensemble. Prior to college, Mr. Barney was raised in the Austin area where he graduated from Leander High School. Mr. Barney enjoys sports (GO SPURS!), spending time with family and volunteering as a saxophonist with the Austin Jazz Band when he is not spending time with the Walsh Band. BAND ROCKS!!!
